Don't have any big or deep comments today. But I was amused to hear, on the drive home, the following comment during a discussion of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue:

Paulina Porizkova was like the Dražen Petrović of swimsuit models.

Because, yeah, that's how us sports watching guys go about ranking things...

And on that note, Top Five (in no order) Winter Olympics Sports:

1. The Downhill
2. Large Hill Ski Jump
3. Curling
4. Biathalon
5. Men's Ice Hockey

Just missing the cut:

6. 3000M Speed Skating
7. Luge

And on that note, Top Five (in no order) Winter Olympics Sports:

Heh. I guess we enjoy opposite ends of the spectrum for the Winter Olympics. Cause my list would be:

1. Figure skating
2. The Downhill (we agree on that)
3. Halfpipe (I was rather impressed by this event - didn't expect to be)
4. Speedskating (I'm not so particular about a specific distance)
5. Large Hill Ski Jump (we agree on that)

With Speed-Skating, it's about the middle distances. Long enough to be more than a little sprint, but not so long I get bored...

The Downhill is just about the most exciting event for me to watch. Dudes just zooming down the mountainside out of control. I love when they go around a corner, and the camera switches where you see people just flying down the hills...

The ones I don't get into are the judging sports - I recognize the beauty and drama in figure skating - but I can't figure out how to get behind something I can't objectively measure. That's just me, though. I know lots of folks who love it...

Curling? Really? I'm still a bit unconvinced that should even be considered a sport. (Like NASCAR *G*) Heh. Not that I've watched enough curling to say, but ignorance has never stopped me from having an opinion before.

I think my top five would be.
1. Figure skating
2. Half-pipe
3. Freestyle skiing
4. Short track
5. Downhill

Curling passes the "I could definitely have fun doing that" test. It's kind of like shuffleboard on ice, but with beer. I thought the idea of it was stupid, until I watched it during the 2002 Olympics. I actually did go curling once, up at a rink a half hour from where I live, and it was neat. But it does fit in more with things like bowling - fun stuff to do that probably isn't quite "Olympian".
