Those who follow college basketball had a crazy weekend, wherein three of the four regional finals went to overtime. And where Maryland advanced to the semi-finals of the NIT Tourney to be played in NYC. My sisters will be going - I have to work.

Last year, [livejournal.com profile] sistakaren won - it was a four team race entering the last weekend. This year - it's three - and it comes down to our championship game picks. Based upon a cursory review of the LJ Bracket Challenge Group, here are my projected results depending upon the various title game results:

1. Illinois defeats North Carolina------------------[livejournal.com profile] dlgood * (87-81)
2. Illinois defeats Michigan State------------------[livejournal.com profile] dlgood
3. Louisville defeats North Carolina----------------[livejournal.com profile] dlgood
4. Louisville defeats Michigan State----------------[livejournal.com profile] hjcallipygian
5. Michigan State defeats Illinois------------------[livejournal.com profile] hjcallipygian
6. Michigan State defeats Louisville----------------[livejournal.com profile] hjcallipygian
7. North Carolina defeats Illinois------------------[livejournal.com profile] sistakaren * (92-86)
8. North Carolina defeats Louisville----------------[livejournal.com profile] sistakaren

* Actual Championship Match pick

Note that if both Louisville and Michigan State win on Saturday, our champ is [livejournal.com profile] hjcallipygian

Hee. I noticed that too. Tight race!

But on the up side: I'm already locked in to win my school bracket. Mostly because nearly everyone picked UNC to win, but also because the point system is different over on CBS Sportsline. My first round luck ended up carrying me pretty far. Yay!

And your sisters are going to watch Maryland? That's cool. I have to say, I was sort of tempted to try to get tickets, but then I realized I should probably save my money.

Congrats on the School pool. I hope you get some ca$h money from it.

I thought pretty hard about going up with the siblings for the NIT Games, but I don't have a lot of leave right now. And it was a bit spur-of-the-moment for me.

Fuck!

Fuck!

So, what you're telling me, is that in order to win -- in order for me, a graduate from the University of Florida, to win this poll -- the fucking Michigan State Spartans have to win the championship????

Fate, you are cruel! Cruel!

KAHN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's not entirely correct. If Louisville wins the championship over Michigan State, you will win. If Louisville wins the championship over North Carolina, I will win. Either way, Mateen Cleaves is laughing at your pain.

*grumble grumble fucking Mateen Cleeves*

Heh. I don't hate Mateen Cleeves so much as I hate his ankle. =)

And his good buddy, Mo' Pete.

Whereas, we all love Billy Donovan for his Eddie Munster hair. Except I hate Billy Donovan for that '87 Providence-Georgetown Regional final, back before none of us had gone to college at Maryland and it was okay to root for both teams.

I don't have it in me to hate Billy Donovan -- when UF was first starting to get into basketball, a bunch of students camped out to get tickets to the Kentucky game. This was his first, maybe second season as UF's coach, and before this, no one cared about basketball at all, so the camping out was a huge deal. And Donovan ordered a whole bunch of pizzas for the students who were camping out, on his own dime, to thank them for showing the support. It was just a cool gesture, even if it wasn't very original.

Certainly, no way Spurrier would ever do that. =)

And just like that, my hate for Billy Donovan is gone. Buying students pizza is awesome. The only other coach I can imagine doing that is Rick Majerus.

Plus I really like the Munster hair. I think it's hilarious.

Spurrier, OTOH, can jump off a bridge for all I care.

Spurrier, OTOH, can jump off a bridge for all I care.

Yeah, no kidding. Both of my parents went to FSU, as does my younger brother, so my opinion of Spurrier was a little... jaded, shall we say, when I arrived in Gainesville. I also think he's highly over-rated as a college coach. He had some great recruiting years and then combined with Bob Stoops to get lucky one year for a national championship. His only other achievement of note was being a modern offensive coach who got hired in an antiquated conference.

I have to admit, I'm a bit excited to see what Urban Meyer is going to do. I want to call him Oscar, too. Or Lane.
