Had a nice weekend. The weather was crappy, but Maryland picked up a nice win over Georgia Tech. I did a LJ Style change, because after a year and a half, that old look was starting to feel a bit stale.

As a side note, I came across McDonald's unfortunate new ad while browsing Page 2 of ESPN this morning.

Clearly, despite their fine efforts to appear "hip", "urban" and "cool" - the folks at Mickey D's have outed themselves as very much not due to the lack of awareness as to what I'd Hit It actually means. Unless they really did mean to take the I'm Lovin It campaign to a whole new, literal, "American Pie" level.

So. At some point this week, I might post again. I'm strangely tempted to post rants (of my own, not in response to the meme) or perhaps talk about my grandparents and family. We shall see if that motivation holds up.

Huh?

I'm apparently very unhip because I had no idea what I'd hit it means in vernacular. Learn something new every day.

And ew.

indeed

Omg -- I'd hit it?! Priceless!

Well they are so hot and juicy! Who wouldn't want to hit it.
Monday, January 31st, 2005 22:21 (UTC)
Oh dear god. Really, someone ought to know better than THAT.

I imagine that they must know now, because the ads came down. Still....

still, that misfire had to cost more money than I even want to think about and then I'm curious to know what they thought that meant

How old are the creatives at their ad agency? You would think the copywriter would take street slang into consideration when putting together a campaign targeting younger people. That's pretty sad, and pretty funny too.

Don't know. You'd think they'd have tested it at least. Or talked to somebody's kid.
Tuesday, February 1st, 2005 00:20 (UTC)
oh my GOD! you'd think that someone would catch that. or maybe someone at the ad agency has a sick sense of humor and isn't afraid to get fired.
Tuesday, February 1st, 2005 02:52 (UTC)
My only thought beyond pervasive incompetence (don't they test these ads?) is that they were fully counting on provoking something, and just ran it to get the attention.

So that's why there's always been a pornish element to the music used in the "I'm Lovin' It" campaign.

Will they next be promoting how they just looooove tossin' salads?

Heh. Those are not sexy burgers...

I have to wonder if maybe they were making up slang, much like Joss Whedon did for Buffy. Only they happened to accidentally come up with a phrase already in use.

If you want to be really kind.

If it makes them feel better, "I'm a Dollar Menu Guy" has taken on a whole new meaning at the office.

Dear me. I'm sure that would make them feel something. What though . . .
