I hate Sidney Crosby.

30 million Canadians love him!
Including me.

There is a thread going on my flist about hating him, and mostly Canadians too.

(I wish it had been someone else, though since he's going to be my future son in law, or so says Scarlet, I can't admit that out loud!)

[identity profile] dlgood.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Well, he is so pretty. And the press keeps telling me how perfect he is. *gag*
ann1962: (I deserve to go to hell but not today)

From certain angles he looks like my brother if my brother had dark hair. Ick. It might also be the slightly vacant look, which Scarlet did comment upon tonight.

Now, now, don't be bitter.

*hands you a beer - a Canadian beer and a cigar* ;-)

Aw... but my hatred for Crosby long predates this particular goal. (Washington hockey long being tormented by Pittsburgh...) This was a very big "anybody but him..." moment.

[identity profile] starryniteshade.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
Leaving aside the "who scored the goal", it was an excellent game with two great teams and a story book finish for the Olympic Games - at least for Canada. ;-)

[identity profile] dlgood.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah - it was one of the best hockey games I've ever seen.

[identity profile] starryniteshade.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
I need not remind you that it takes TWO GREAT TEAMS to make a great game. Well done to your team to push into sudden death overtime. At that stage it could easily have gone the other way.

Still.....I *am* happier we got it and broke the gold medal record too! But if it had gone the other way I would have expected you to be rejoicing and wouldn't have begrudged it.....much. ;-)

Yes, the US played very well as a team. Oh it would have been very nice to have won, but I'm still surprised by how much 1980 sustains me. Even if I was just a little kid at the time. I was actually more upset by the Russia game - not wanting to see Ovie go out with a whimper just as the Caps did against the Penguins in game 7 of the playoffs last year.

That's sort of a weird thing - rooting for my country on one hand, and then rooting for Sweden/Russia because they have my City's pro players - which is an odd dynamic for me.

Honestly, I'm glad the medal counts worked out nicely for the host nation. At the end of the events, I'm still largely rooting for a good show.

Just suck it up Dave, and party Canadian-style.

[identity profile] dlgood.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Only if I can party with the ladies' team. They're cool...
ann1962: (enables and fangirls)

[personal profile] ann1962 2010-03-01 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I was so impressed. What *is* the fuss?

[identity profile] mslauren2930.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
they weren't behaving like "ladies"???
ann1962: (Posts like a girl)

[personal profile] ann1962 2010-03-01 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
That is exactly why, and there were photos!

[identity profile] mslauren2930.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
SCANDALOUS!

[identity profile] starryniteshade.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Tempest in a teapot - if that!

Kinda what I thought too.

One of them was below legal drinking age.

[personal profile] ann1962 2010-03-01 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually hadn't heard the reasons for the displeasure. Just that they were partying with beer and cigars and there were photos.

[identity profile] dlgood.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Not merely one of them - their best player.

But that said - this is manufactured outrage, which the IOC often does. (See condemnations of Usain Bolt for his victory celebration.) I think it was mostly because they did it on the ice surface instead of in the locker room. Marie-Phillipe Poulin's age was something of an afterthought.

[identity profile] starryniteshade.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
She is of legal drinking age in Quebec, which is her home province. It's not like there's a big sign when you enter a new province announcing that it's drinking age is different. She may have known or not or may have forgotten...who knows, but it really struck me as reaching for something to be upset about.

"Hate Sidney Crosby" is a top trending topic on Twitter here in the DC area. I LOL.
ann1962: (Default)

[personal profile] ann1962 2010-03-01 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
And in Canada now too, with a good selection asking why it was trending in the US! LOL

[identity profile] carlyinrome.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 01:48 am (UTC)(link)

AW, I could not BELIEVE that shit. TWENTY FOUR SECONDS left, and then they gave it up to an easy shot. Unfreakingbelievable.

[identity profile] dlgood.livejournal.com 2010-03-01 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
That wasn't an awful goal to give up (See Brodeur, Kiprusoff, Nabakov...) but it was definitely below the standard he'd set throughout the games.

Also, now I'm worried that whatever infected Team Russia is going to plague my boy Ovie.
