So, this Sunday, April 22, 2007 - my younger sister Meredith married her long-time sweetheart Adam. And we couldn't have been happier.
As I remarked in my toast: (my sister was Merrie's maid-of-honor but doesn't like to give speeches, so I took her place)
Adam is a good kid. After college, he kept up a long distance relationship with my sister, and chose to move down here from New York to be with her. He's got a good job and career prospects, he's smart, funny, kind and loyal... and he has the same sort of appreciation for family that we do. On the downside, he's not jewish and he's short, but these are the sorts of things you overlook. After all, nobody's perfect.
He makes my sister happy. That's all we could ever ask for. Having a brother-in-law that is a good friend is lovely bonus.

Here's a photo of them in front of the McKeldin Library at the University of Maryland campus. Aren't they so damn cute!
In any case, the wedding (at the University of Maryland chapel) was lovely, and we got ourselves a very funny rabbi to run the show. Our reception also was great - my family isn't the wildest bunch but we do know how to throw parties. I got... very drunk... and had quite the sociable time. (Sociable enough to need to take an extra day off...)
The party ended at 930, but a bunch of us went to hit the bars (still in the tuxes) afterwards, so that had something to do with it. I got to see a lot of our widespread friends and family, and that really is one of the things I live for so it was just really, really great.

Good Times!
As I remarked in my toast: (my sister was Merrie's maid-of-honor but doesn't like to give speeches, so I took her place)
"As an older sibling, you put some thought into the kind of person you want your baby sister to spend her life with... and what to do about the losers she dates until she meets that person."
"We didn't have to do a lot of work with Adam. He disarms our big-sibling over-protectiveness, which, if you know Meredith is pretty unnecessary anyway. If we were ever going to have tests, Adam would pass them all."

He's a non-practicing catholic, and my sister is pretty lax herself. What they've talked out is something of a combination of both traditions, so their kids are going to grow up with both the menorah and the tree.
And if she's okay with that, then so am I. While he's not a jew, he does really have quite a good appreciation of what it means to our family and is very respectful. So that's nice.

I remember thinking how great your family seemed on the DVD you showed us in Tahoe. Glad everyone enjoyed themselves, and that the groom won big brother's approval. That's always important.

Adam is a great kid, and the whole family is enamored of him. And we're very proud of lil sis.

A mixed religion marriage can work just fine as long as they both don't mind, and can agree how to raise the kids. How religious they are is much more important for compatability than which religion they are.

Both of them are relatively lax, religiously, but they seem to have already discussed and worked out a lot of how they expect to handle things. (Which is to introduce the kids to both faiths and keep both in the house)

So what's wrong w/him being short, huh? I never understood that.
Sorry not to have replied sooner--I got back from my own brother's wedding the day before you posted this! & haven't been catching up at the pace I'd like. Hell, I haven't even posted about his wedding yet.
