I never do the My (Insert Character Here) things. Maybe I could. I'm often not motivated enough.

But, what with the College Football season just having started, and having given some thought to this... and having recently read good "My Faith" and "My Mayor Wilkins" I've decided to be all proactive...

My Angel, the Fooball Fan

  • Had a leather football helmet in his apartment.

  • Would have given it to Giles, if it wouldn't have provoked the whole Football & it's Body Armor vs. rugby players are so much manlier argument.

  • Sides with Football.

  • Is a University of Notre Dame Fan. A huge fan.

  • But not because they're nicknamed the Fighting Irish. They weren't even called that when he started following the sport. It's because, if you moved around a lot in the 1920s, Notre Dame and Army were pretty much the only teams you could get on the radio.

  • And he's tired of the stereotype.

  • And because of Knute Rockne.

  • Remembers when George Halas was an outfielder for the Yankees.

  • Judges all subsequent coaches against them.

  • Became an NFL fan when the Bears signed Red Grange

  • Thinks Jim Brown was no Bronko Nagurski. And Paul Hornung earned that Heisman.

  • Wanted Unitas' Colts to beat Namath's Jets.

  • Thinks Otto Graham was better than the both of them.

  • Wants to know where all these 'Diva Receivas' came from. Don Hutson wasn't a diva.

  • But he likes Chad Johnson, because the riverdance was priceless.

  • Is glad to know that some things, like making fun of kickers, never change.

  • But doesn't mock punters. Punting is a skill.

  • Preferred the NFL to the AFL. Liked the AAFC even better.

  • Wishes he knew someone else who remembers. Is kind of glad he doesn't.

  • Still prefers College Football.

  • Almost said "Let's win one for the Gipper" instead of "I want to fight a dragon"

  • Wonders if he's ever going to get another chance to say that. He's been saving it.

  • Thinks modern football has too many penalties.

  • Gets angry when the penalties he does not believe in are not called on Notre Dame's opponents.

  • Can't stand Instant Replay. Doesn't understand the BCS. Or QB rating.

  • Thought Fantasy Football was for losers and dorks. Until Gunn signed up for the W&H Executive Fantasy Football League.

  • Pouted through the entire draft, because nobody ever asked him if he wanted to play.

  • Gets in fights with Gunn all week leading up the the USC-Notre Dame game, and all week afterward.

  • Stopped watching football when he went back into gutter exile in the late 1970s. Didn't pick up again until Sunnydale.

  • Consequently, missed Joe Montana's entire career.

  • Learning that that he missed out on Joe Montana's entire career only made him more depressed.

  • Saw the highlights of that Colorado game. That wasn't a clip.

  • Upon his return to society, decided that ESPN was among the greatest developments ever.

  • Hates ESPN... yet cannot turn away.

  • Doesn't think the Super Bowl Shuffle is funny, or cool. He should have been there...

  • Never cared much for Cosell.

  • Loved Curt Gowdy, Dandy Don Meredith and Keith Jackson.

  • Is not saving Chris Berman.

  • Is trying to recapture missing Montana Magic vicariously through Tom Brady

  • Thinks today's Cheerleading Outfits are disgraceful

  • Stares at them anyway

  • Fantasized about Buffy in a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader costume. Cordy & Darla too. Faith's more of a Raiderette.

  • Sometimes dreams of sitting next to Regis Philbin at the Fiesta Bowl.

  • Is never going to tell that to anyone. Except Regis.

Also - Angel missed almost the entirety of Elway's career, and thus would have minimal appreciation of his talent or accomplishments. This is very sad, because Elway's game was great. Of course, were he watching football at the time, Angel probably would have been more of a cleveland fan...
