I never do the My (Insert Character Here) things. Maybe I could. I'm often not motivated enough.
But, what with the College Football season just having started, and having given some thought to this... and having recently read good "My Faith" and "My Mayor Wilkins" I've decided to be all proactive...

My Angel, the Fooball Fan
- Had a leather football helmet in his apartment.
- Would have given it to Giles, if it wouldn't have provoked the whole Football & it's Body Armor vs. rugby players are so much manlier argument.
- Sides with Football.
- Is a University of Notre Dame Fan. A huge fan.
- But not because they're nicknamed the Fighting Irish. They weren't even called that when he started following the sport. It's because, if you moved around a lot in the 1920s, Notre Dame and Army were pretty much the only teams you could get on the radio.
- And he's tired of the stereotype.
- And because of Knute Rockne.
- Remembers when George Halas was an outfielder for the Yankees.
- Judges all subsequent coaches against them.
- Became an NFL fan when the Bears signed Red Grange
- Thinks Jim Brown was no Bronko Nagurski. And Paul Hornung earned that Heisman.
- Wanted Unitas' Colts to beat Namath's Jets.
- Thinks Otto Graham was better than the both of them.
- Wants to know where all these 'Diva Receivas' came from. Don Hutson wasn't a diva.
- But he likes Chad Johnson, because the riverdance was priceless.
- Is glad to know that some things, like making fun of kickers, never change.
- But doesn't mock punters. Punting is a skill.
- Preferred the NFL to the AFL. Liked the AAFC even better.
- Wishes he knew someone else who remembers. Is kind of glad he doesn't.
- Still prefers College Football.
- Almost said "Let's win one for the Gipper" instead of "I want to fight a dragon"
- Wonders if he's ever going to get another chance to say that. He's been saving it.
- Thinks modern football has too many penalties.
- Gets angry when the penalties he does not believe in are not called on Notre Dame's opponents.
- Can't stand Instant Replay. Doesn't understand the BCS. Or QB rating.
- Thought Fantasy Football was for losers and dorks. Until Gunn signed up for the W&H Executive Fantasy Football League.
- Pouted through the entire draft, because nobody ever asked him if he wanted to play.
- Gets in fights with Gunn all week leading up the the USC-Notre Dame game, and all week afterward.
- Stopped watching football when he went back into gutter exile in the late 1970s. Didn't pick up again until Sunnydale.
- Consequently, missed Joe Montana's entire career.
- Learning that that he missed out on Joe Montana's entire career only made him more depressed.
- Saw the highlights of that Colorado game. That wasn't a clip.
- Upon his return to society, decided that ESPN was among the greatest developments ever.
- Hates ESPN... yet cannot turn away.
- Doesn't think the Super Bowl Shuffle is funny, or cool. He should have been there...
- Never cared much for Cosell.
- Loved Curt Gowdy, Dandy Don Meredith and Keith Jackson.
- Is not saving Chris Berman.
- Is trying to recapture missing Montana Magic vicariously through Tom Brady
- Thinks today's Cheerleading Outfits are disgraceful
- Stares at them anyway
- Fantasized about Buffy in a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader costume. Cordy & Darla too. Faith's more of a Raiderette.
- Sometimes dreams of sitting next to Regis Philbin at the Fiesta Bowl.
- Is never going to tell that to anyone. Except Regis.
Possibly subject for future adds/cuts/edits.

And just for Angel (even though he thinks it's indecent), here's a bit of Cordy's ass (points to icon).

*loves that you mentioned The Only Real Cheerleaders, the DCCs*
(And Faith's not a Laker Girl? Hmmm.)

1) I hate to break it to you, but the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders aren't even in the Top Ten in terms of Cheerleader Hotness and Uniform Skimpiness anymore.
1A) But it's still the first thing Angel thinks about when he thinks of Hot & Skimpy Cheerleaders
2) This is football, first and foremost - so football teams.
2A) Angel missed out on the Paula Abdul era heydey of the Laker Girls. He thinks first of the Knick City Dancers.
2B) Angel doesn't really think of Faith as a cheerleader type, except ironically.
2C) Angel missed out on the Heydey of the Laker Girls
nd Faith wouldn't wear yellow & purple. She'd wear silver and black.

Also, he appreciates that the uniforms never change because it makes it much easier on him.

Ah, yes. It is insane how clearly I can picture this.
Faith's more of a Raiderette.
Totally.

Poor Angel.
This is priceless and I'm not a football fan.

Heee, now I'm visualizing Angel wearing it...and having no clue how dorky he looks. He probably wouldn't care, though.
I know very little about football, but I love that Angel is a fan. He's definitely more a football type than a soccer type.
Loved this, Dave.

The Regis and Raiderette bits me giggle, but the above kinda made me sniffly for him. Can't explain it. This was perfect.

And also, yes, Angel loves Regis. Shh. Don't tell anyone.

Is not saving Chris Berman.
I really did laugh out loud at this one. Berman clearly is a helldemon anyway. Or at least his writers are.

You *have* to tell me what Angel thought of Roosevelt Grier.
Is trying to recapture missing Montana Magic vicariously through Tom Brady Damn f*cking skippy!
I think your Angel and mine are one and the same.
Now when are you hitting My Angel On Ice? Because you know he thinks Bobby Orr is still the greatest defenseman in the history of the sport, and that the world fell to ruin with the addition of the first expansion team. Huh...maybe I oughtta take hockey...
no subject
Sure Angel thinks Bobby Orr is the greatest defenseman ever -- everybody does. But he finds it tragic how the attention lavished on Bobby Orr overshadows just how great Doug Harvey was.
Actually, Angel was okay with the first expansion. More teams = more hockey. (And strangely, the scene in Life of the Party indicate he's a fan of the expansion Flyers) However, when he came back out of the gutter, the NHL had 26! teams leaving him very confused.

I can so see him fantasizing about Buffy in one of those stupid Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader outfits. While hating the Cowboys. lol
*thumbs up*

It's a funny thing. While I don't think he likes the Cowboys, I also don't know if I project him as really hating them all that much either. I don't know who I think his favorite teams would be or how much they change. (Whereas, Gunn is a Raiders fan and I think Faith was a Cowboys/Raiders type fan as a teen but now loves the Patriots...)
Angel's a much bigger College fan, IMO. Especially as College was a much bigger deal than the NFL in the 1920--1960 era when his fanness would have been formed.
And oh yeah, Angel loves NFL Films and ESPN Classic stuff.

Loved!

It's American football. I don't know enough about International Football (soccer) to write it. I suspect that Angel would be a fan of the biggest stars in any sport (i.e. Pele) but probably doesn't care much for soccer otherwise.

this was hysterical, except for the parts where i had no idea what you're talking about. ;)
