As a heads up to my FList. I will be in and out of contact for the next week, and mostly silent. Travel Schedule:

Tues 12 Sep: Business in Newport, Rhode Island
Weds 13 Sep: Business in Groton, Connecticut
Thurs 14 Sep: Back to Newport

More submarine/shipyard business. Will be checking out Virginia (SSN 774) and Hawaii (SSN 776)

Friday 15-18 Sep: Off to Lawrence, Kansas to hang with my friend Dusty. Also, will be hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] ladyoneill. Good times.

I wondered if you'd get to Groton, and if they were still building subs there!

When my little brother was at the Coast Guard Academy... when we'd go by the Sub Plant - we'd have to "avert our eyes" as we sped by!!! It always made me giggle because you couldn't see a darn thing (I peeked). Then again, that was 1981/82. Not doubt times have changed things!

Indeed, Electric Boat is still building subs in Groton. We'll be checking in on two hulls up there. Should be neat.

Heh. Well Electric Boat is now a division of the publicly traded General Dynamics Corporation. So, it's public. I'm sure you can't see anything from the road, but the names open...

Yup. All US submarines have nuclear propulsion.
