Lazy Weekend / Scrubs S1

So, highlight of the weekend was taking my father to the Washington Auto show. We go every couple of years. Aside from getting to fight crowds to look at models we could find in the showrooms anyway, it's a neat father/son experience for us. Which is why we go back.

Got to see the new Dodge Challenger. And the "Camp Jeep" section which featured Jeep Drivers running their cars through an obstacle course. Very cool. Too bad for the Daimler/Chrysler folks that I have absolutely no faith in the quality control of their products - as I won't be buying them, no matter how striking and cool much of the product line appears to be.

I've got 5.5 years and 73,500 miles into my Honda Accord and it has been remarkably trouble free. Not cool or exciting, but nothing has gone wrong that was supposed to. So, odds are, in another four years, I'll be getting another one.

Also. Finished watching S1 of Scrubs. I still love it. The final episode closes with one of my favorite scenes ever, and a nasty monogue by Christa Miller (Drew Carey Show) that has to have been so much fun to deliver:

J.D.'s Thoughts: It's been a long year, but the important thing is we all got through it together. We were a family.

Jordan: Hey everyone.

J.D.: Oh, Ms. Sullivan, thank you for helping us with Mr. Bober.

Jordan: Oh, don't mention it! And even though I wasn't invited to your little party, I brought presents for everyone!

Dr. Cox: Brace yourself, there, newbie.

Jordan: Carla, my ex-husband is in love with you. It's true. Ask your boyfriend, he knows; he and Perry talk about it all the time. I don't know why you haven't mentioned this to her! Perhaps you're afraid of something? Huh. And Bob? When are you gonna tell Perry that that promotion you're making him jump through hoops for? was filled months ago! It just seems wrong. Which brings us to Twinkie. If you don't have the courage to tell your 'colleague' Dr. Dorian that you're still crazy about him, I'm gonna go ahead and do it for ya, 'cause that's what friends do. Yeah! And finally, Perry, you are not gonna believe what happened the first time I met your little protégé, here....

J.D.'s Thoughts: Oh, please God, no.

Jordan: I slept with him... and it was good - oh! How's that for stirring things up? Have a great summer, everyone. Bye!

Lots of shows take these little melodramas and just string them out on and on, and then by the time they get to even have secrets revealed to the characters, there's nowhere near enough time spent on the fallout. On what it means. Now maybe this show was going to do that too... but as a viewer, the idea of systematically revealing every character's major secret in a single scene was very, very cool. And really fitting to the Jordan character based upon who she'd been shown to be and where they storylines had been going.

I love that scene.

I didn't watch Drew Carey all that much, and had very little impression of Christa Miller. Other than thinking she looked cute. Given the Jordan character on Scrubs, she's awesome. It's a part that was pretty much made for her by her husband (Bill Lawrence, series creator) and it must have been a blast for her to play.

Special Features were pretty decent. I still haven't watched them with the audio commentaries yet...
