Inspired by Ben Edlund's little "Spoooooooon!" shout-out in this week's "Angel", I'm reposting my old [livejournal.com profile] sunday100 drabble.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Deep Down in the City of ...The City
Spoilers: Ats 4.01 "Deep Down."
Crossover: "The Tick"
Disclaimer: Property of Mutant Enemy and Ben Edlund
--------------------------------------------------------------------
"Nothing in the world is the way it ought to be, Connor. But that's why there's us. Champions!"

"So evil-doers, prepare! Because you know what Champions eat. They eat Wheaties! And it's time for us to drench the City with our milky justice, and make breakfast of the forces of Darkness!"

"SPOOOOOOOOOON!"

Connor silently regarded the blue stranger. He was strong, nigh-invulnerable, and tirelessly devoted to stamping out all forms of injustice. However, listening to his mixed-up, homily influenced blather was even worse than living with Angel.

And, he'd rather go back to Quartoth than wear a moth costume.

I'm obviously not the only one seeing the Ben Edlund Tick humor in Angel, am I? *g*

LOL.

This is probably the cutest thing ever.

*rolling on the floor* Oh my God. That is SO awesome! *builds a shrine and worships the funny* It could have only been funnier if it were Angel himself. Hee.

But I thought the spoon thing was a "Robin Hood Prince of Thieves" shout-out. "I'll cut his heart out with a SPOON!" "But Cousin, why a SPOON?"

In the comics, and later the animated series, "SPOOON!" is the Tick's battle cry. For no apparent reason. It was very much a shout-out to that.

It could have only been funnier if it were Angel himself. Hee.

My desire for a Tick/Angel crossover began years ago, and was only made worse when they brought in the Groosalugg - who might as well have been Tick. I've always pictured one of those scenes where Tick just lectures while Angel stares dumbfounded. And then actually starts thinking about it. And stares some more. But, alas, this drabble was it.

Hilarious! Oh Connor, flee from the blue costumed hero. It can only go badly for you.

I only wish I had watched "The Tick" when it was still on!

Shit! A spoon!!! I didn't even get the reference because I hadn't noticed Ben was writing 5.02. Now I will watch it again with renewed vigour and a feeling of robust smugness. Now if only they could work a storyline in about Bi-Polar Bear...

Bi-Polar Bear is great, but really, I'll take almost any of the "Tick" characters. They're just so neat.

Carpeted Man, now he could really cook up a storm. And that orangutan side-kick, I wanted to know more about him...

Yeah. And what's up with the Human Bullet? How can anyone survive all those concussions.

Sadly, we only had the one series in the U.K, so I've only ever seen glimpses of the 'little wooden boy' and Speak. I have all thefirst series episodes on tape though, although they're starting to wear a little thin now. Particularly The Bread Master's: "he baked a muffin...that stole my car!!"

::sighs::

So nice to meet another Tick devotee though. Over here, we are a rare breed.

Lmao! Thanks for the laugh. I snickered quite loudly during that scene, and no one around me got it.

Thanks. Glad you liked it.
