Last week, I got myself a high ankle sprain playing the outfield. I was up in the air about playing again this week, because it'd be pretty stupid to hurt myself in a dopey company league game. There was still some swelling and discoloration, and there was a heat advisory in the area.

So of course, I played. And actually, had a pretty good game. Went 2-3, with a triple, a walk, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. And threw a runner our at third. (Actually, relay from me in right to the shortstop, to third.) And no re-injury. And we won. So yay! Hooray for that.

Lookie here... That's, like, a card caliber photo. Me hitting my triple to right. Credit goes to my co-worker Jen, who thought to bring the digital camera. I particularly like the nice action pose. Dirt cloud under the feet. Top hand off the bat, Charlie Lau style. And, I've nicely extended the bat enough to show off the logo there...

Actually, the pitch probably wasn't a strike - given how low I've dropped (look where my right knee is) but I was looking to go to right so I was looking to reach. Must say - I was having way much fun. Dorks out over "Hitting the Hriniak Way"...

Yes - and nice follow through on that swing!

You know - I gave up the corporate softball league in my mid 20's, (and instead played 10 years of competitive SOCCER - with big 10 players), because I was getting hurt TOO OFTEN playing softball!!

The warming up and the getting COLD (and then going from 0-150 in 3 seconds flat) thing was murder on my muscles (wait wait wait wait STRETCH wait wait wait SPRINT wait wait SWING and SPRINT wait wait). I'd be sore and hobbling around for DAYS with all sorts of injuries.

Then they started a womens soccer team in our town. I ran more, stretched more, used more muscles harder, and got hit a lot more - but we started playing and then I stayed warmed up, so I was never really working COLD muscles - and it worked SO much better for these old bones!!

Still - the thrill of the diamond is hard to give up!! Good luck!

I could imagine that... I just... The cool spots are part of what I really like. I'm not in the best shape anymore, and I don't have the best wheels, so getting to take a breather between plays in the outfield is nice. The boredom between at-bats is a bigger issue for moe.

All that running around in soccer wore me out before I was having fun. Mostly - I'm seasonal. Softball in spring/summer, football in the fall, and basketball in the winter.

Could you tell that I'm not playing much these days either, but Sara has challenged me to get back into tennis before the next gathering.

I'm VERY tempted!
