Saw this on Sunday. Turned out to be a fairly decent movie to watch. It wasn't great by any stretch, and I think there were some clear issues. There's just not a lot of depth to this movie. However, it has one of the best movie scenes ever. So overall, I was entertained.

And, boy, that Angelina Jolie is quite the impressive actress. Who knows whether or not Jolie and Pitt are doing it, but I could believe it. Also - Brad Pitt needs to stay away from period pieces and do more ironic/dark comedy. He's not really all that great of an actor, but he's got lots of charm. He works fine here as the sitcom doofus husband character married to a woman who is just way more than he's aware of.

Which scene would that be? I enjoyed the movie; it was fun. I love Brad Pitt, though. He's always entertaining. Except when trying to be Achilles in the awful Troy.

The dinner scene. They just play the tension out so well. I really liked the camerawork. The wine bottle. Good stuff.

Yeah, that was a nice scene, with the "Does she know that I know? Does she know that I know that she knows? Does he know that I know that he knows that I know?" I spent several minutes trying to figure out what the hell was going through their heads after the wine bottle, cause when you think about it, that's one brilliant reveal.

I thought it was a really nice touch that she recognized him from his pre-urination dance. And we'd never seen it before, but it was just one of those things you would recognize if you'd been married for five or six years.

Yeah, that was nifty. I sort of expected him to recognize his wife's business address when he got it, but OTOH, I do know a lot of guys that wouldn't be able to.

oh, man. I thought that movie was freakin' awesome. I laughed and laughed. I zoned out a bit during the overlong shootout at the end (where the hell did all those people come from?), but that's a pretty minor nitpick. I was very, very entertained. I think I'm going to go see it again.

I adore Brad Pitt, but I have to agree. I love that he's been staying away from the hardcore drama lately (obviously excepting Troy, I guess).

If you want to nitpick, the movie doesn't stand up too great (hey, shouldn't there be some cops? and could a business make any profit with what they spend on Jane Smith's team...) so I mostly just sat back and watched for the cool stuff. Although, yeah - the shootout was overdone. It's like a weird smooshing of Hong Kong Action, Romantic Comedy, Dopey Husband Sitcom, and Michael Bay Explosion-fest.

It was very entertaining. The little "bitch" reaction shot from him after he discovers that she's cleaned out his bunker and taken the golf clubs...

I just saw Ocean's Twelve, and I liked him a lot more when he's the number two for Ocean or (even better) babysitting young stars who need cool lessons a lot more than him trying to be a romantic lead with CZJ.

Interesting - I hadn't seen 12, but I thought he played well off Clooney in 11. And I must say I can't imagine Pitt leading any movie that also has Clooney in it.

What makes it work in Mr. & Mrs. Smith, is that it's really Jolie's show. She carries the movie and Pitt is free to be cool. Instead of trying to do heavy lifting he doesn't have the chops for.

Well, it's still Clooney's game and Pitt's still the trusted lieutenant. Not quite the Clooney/Pitt time as before, but then, that was really when the job was being planned and they were collecting the team. This time, the jobs are not the focus and the team is together (although no expanded Cheadle time, which is odd,considering how Europe would be considered his home turf), so there's no reason for the great unspoken communication deal between them.

This time, it's Ocean gets pulled into a Pink Panther movie, with a thief-with-calling card and everything, but instead of Clouseau being an ineffective Peter Sellers, she's Catherine Zeta-Jones as a thief's daughter with serious daddy issues rather than any particular attraction to law and order, and Brad Pitt's the beneficiary of that.
