Like many folks out there, I use the instant messenging programs, both at work and at home. It's annoyingto have to switch between AIM, Yahoo Messenger and ICQ, plus deal with all the crappy adds.

Am happy to report that Gaim does not suck. You can use Gaim in place of AOL Instant Messenger, ICQ, Yahoo! Instant Messenger. One program to handle all the instant messages. It's free and it doesn't suck. Do a dance of little joys...

K's been complaining about the pop-ups and stuff when the IM comes up on startup. I'm not and never been a big IM fan (more interested in getting to the bottom of things than staying on top of things, following Knuth), so she always asks me things like "Is this good?" or "Can I get rid of everything that jumps up when I start up?" and I can only say "I dunno." She uses AIM and Yahoo. You're saying that Gaim would be good?

You're saying that Gaim would be good?

1. No ads or popups
2. One program handles all accounts simultaneuously.

Gaim very good. Although, you may have to do more playing around with preferences and plugins - but some people like that aspect.
