Wow. 6 of 20. Which tells me a few things:
1) My playlist had some crappy songs.
2) I did a crappy job picking lyrics.

1) Just dance! if you caught up in the holy ghost trance. If you stop! ima put the killer ants in your pants
Ol' Dirty Bastard - Got Your Money
I love this song. Apparently, no one else does.

2) Living on daydreams, walking in my sleep, and nothing is as it seems, when you're in so deep.
Til Tuesday - What About Love
Too obscure. A one-hit wonder's other hit.

3) There ain't no doubt in no one’s mind that love's the finest thing around.
James Taylor - Carolina in my Mind
Thought someone would get that.

4) In a soldier's stance, I aimed my hand at the mongrel dogs who teach
Bob Dylan - My Back Pages-[livejournal.com profile] ludditerobot

5) And as I watch you leaving me you pack my peace of mind
The Rolling Stones - No Expectations
Too common sounding? Not a well enough known song?

6) Come right in. Forget about him. We'll have ourselves a ball.
AC/DC - Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap-[livejournal.com profile] ludditerobot

7) If it's a crime, how come I feel no pain?
Europe - Carrie
I didn't expect anyone to get it, and I'm semi embarassed to have it. This song, is oh-so-very-bad. And yet I get cheesy amusement from the way Europe clearly has no real understanding of either English or Music.

8) The sun, the moon, the stars all bear my seal
Black Sabbath - N.I.B.-[livejournal.com profile] londonkds

9) Name dropping no-names glamorize cocaine
Motley Crue - Wild Side
10) And who’s to care if I grow my hair to the sky?
Cinderella - Gypsy Road
I like the assy hair metal. It makes me feel all nostalgic.

11) I've got my own life, you've still got your wife, she whispered tenderly.
The Smithereens - Strangers When We Meet
A great band, great song, but too obscure.

12) Someone's on the phone, three o'clock in the morning, talkin' about how she can make it right
Al Green - Love and Happiness
Was surprised no one got that. Al Green y'all. C'mon.

13) And it's something quite peculiar, something that’s shimmering and white.
The Church - Under the Milky Way-[livejournal.com profile] ludditerobot
14) You make the night, I always cross the line
Ratt - Round and Round-[livejournal.com profile] anonymous_sibyl

15) Federal law enforcement expenditures ranked last in absolute dollars, and accounted for only 6% of all federal spending.
Queensryche - Empire
Perhaps the most pretentious interlude in rock history. Really. Who the hell breaks down budget figures in the middle of a rock song?

16) I started to write you a letter but I wanted to be more clever
Tevin Campbell - Can We Talk
Middling R&B hits from a decade ago. Didn't think anyone would get that...

17) You poison my coffee a little each day
Weird Al Yankovic - You Don't Love Me Anymore
Hands down, the best original song he ever did. It's so tender...

18) What do you mean, "I ain't kind"? I'm just not your kind.
Megadeth - Peace Sells-[livejournal.com profile] ludditerobot

19) You can be my mama and I`ll be your boy
A Tribe Called Quest - Electric Relaxation
20) Write is wrong when hype is written on the soul
De La Soul - Me Myself and I
In both cases, I think I probably did some sub-optimal lyric choosing. People know these songs.

If you would've put "Blood and Roses" or "Behind the Wall of Sleep", I would've got it. "Cigarette"? Maybe. Not "Strangers". Makes me a bad Smithereens fan.

I think the last Stones song everyone knows is "Miss You". Which is too bad, because "One Hit (To The Body)" and "Undercover" are kick-ass songs.

Doesn't make you too bad a fan --- "Strangers When We Meet" is even older than "Blood & Roses" and I only know it because my college roommate had all their albums. It's probably on the compilation.

I think the last Stones song everyone knows is "Miss You".

That might make you a bad Stones fan. "No Expectations" is on Beggars Banquet.

All four are on Especially For You.

I am a bad Stones fan. The only Stones records I have are that recent Unplugged-ish one and Exile on Main Street. No, wait. I have another. Let It Bleed. Used to have Undercover, but no longer.

Oh. Okay. I should know that. For some reason, I thought "Strangers" was older, but that's not right, I suppose. "Beauty and Sadness" is the one from the first album.

I apparently missed your original post on this, but going down your list, I would have only known one. And that would only be because I've been blasting Motley Crue's Greatest Hits in my car every day for the last week! *g*
Wednesday, December 22nd, 2004 11:05 (UTC)
Hee. Crue rules.
Wednesday, December 22nd, 2004 11:39 (UTC)
Oops. Guess that's bad form. Anyway, for me, the bands = good, the songs = unknown.
Wednesday, December 22nd, 2004 12:03 (UTC)
No. it's fine. But I'm at work and don't have that song here. I'll try to send it later, presuming I remember.
Wednesday, December 22nd, 2004 15:40 (UTC)
I got it, thanks!

Ah, De La Soul, I still love thee!
Wednesday, December 22nd, 2004 16:50 (UTC)
Hee. I love how none for your options included: "My friend list is comprised of a bunch of unculutured bastards on it". Hee.

Anyway, I think I deliberately skipped your quiz, because of the studying. But this:

16) I started to write you a letter but I wanted to be more clever
Tevin Campbell - Can We Talk
Middling R&B hits from a decade ago. Didn't think anyone would get that...

EEE!!!! I swear, I thought I was the only one who still talked about Tevin Campbell. I *love* him. I had such a crush on him. ::swoons::

He was teh magic. Until he fucked up his hair later and sung some other shitty songs.

But yeah, I totally would have gotten that one. And the Al Green one.

Given that my list has so much ass-metal on it, and pretty much nothing from this milleneum, I can't make that sort of claim. I have pretty stale and shlocky music tastes, and I'm pretty much cool with that.

He was teh magic. Until he fucked up his hair later and sung some other shitty songs.

Also, Tevin had that thing where he got busted for propositioning a male prostitute, and the R&B community is not particularly kind to gay male singers. Which, you know, is too bad. Cause that boy can sing.

Whoa. I had forgotten all about that. That's really sad, too. Especially when you consider that they generally don't have much of a problem with things like say, pedophilia? I'm just sayin...
