In Case You Wanted To Know (Where I Stand. And Possibly, Spamming my LJ)

Idea for this lifted from Kita:

27, SWM, het, single. I try to like almost all of the characters, and I'm frequently hard on all of them because of it. I'm often biased in favor of Giles, Buffy, Angel, Wesley, and post- "Five by Five" Faith - because I like characters that show a sense of duty and responsibility - even if they frequently act like dopes about it. I'm ambivalent about and can't seem to identify with Xander. I think Willow is really bi, not that I really care or am in a position to judge. I don't dislike Rona, hate Kennedy though I feel like I shouldn't, don't care all that much about Anya though I suppose I should, and find Riley boring but still sort of like him anyway. I thought Spike was a great character, before he was reduced to Unrequited Narcissism personified. Among the deceased, I mourn Kendra the most, and I'd lay flowers on her grave each spring.

I want to have sex with Faith, but wouldn't because it would probably kill me. I respect Lilah and think she's cool, but still think she'd have no qualms killing me. I'm fairly cool with Gunn most of the time, would like Fred to just go away for a while, and would love to hire Lorne for my cousin's Bar-mitzvah. Gun to the head, my OT3 is W/T/O because they were all so sweet, and my OTP is B/A, because they manage to be romantic while repeatedly shattering romantic illusions. Back in the day, I thought B/A/S/F would make for a really hot rhombus of lust. Not so much anymore.

I'm a risk-averse individual. I drive a Honda Accord but sometimes wish I'd gotten a roadster instead, just not enough to could go back in time and change things if I had the opportunity. I abstained from alcohol fof one year in college, in part to save money, in part to improve my health, and in part just because I could.

I'm pro-Iraq war but wish it had clear policies that matched a clear objective. I'm pro-choice, but wish I didn't have to be. I'm anti-capital punishment, because it's a power I don't think the government should have. I'm pro-Israel, pro-civil rights, and and pro-affirmative action, somewhat biased on each subject but hopefully not uncritically so. I'm against religion mixing in school and government, but am disappointed by my own lack of dedication in my private life. (I'm a bad, bad, lazy Jew.) I believe in public funding for public goods, and I'm willing to pay higher taxes to support them - even though I'm often dismayed by public inefficiency. I'm a Realist on foreign policy, though I have a slightly more inclusive definition of "power" than most.

I've worked for both a Democratic Senator and Rebublican leaning Think Tank. Last year I campaigned for two Democrats who won their first elections to Congress, but I think I could vote for Colin Powell if he ran for president. I'll probably wind up supporting Joe Lieberman.

I'm a product of public education at every level I've attended (in my case - kindergarten to graduate school) and so is every other member of my immediate family. My mother teaches in the public schools. My father is an engineer in the defense industry. Your taxes (if you're an american taxpayer) financed my education, and either directly or indirectly pay the salaries of many people that I dearly love. I've been a very fortunate person, and I try not to take that for granted.

Today, I ate a bowl of Honeycomb cereal for breakfast, a tuna sandwich for lunch, and for dinner will be re-heating leftover pasta that I cooked last night. Then, I'm going to work out with my buddy John, and we will mock each other for being weak and feeble.

Right back atcha.

Suddenly thinking I would have found "Provider" much less unfunny with a well written "Lorne the Mohel" interlude....

Mwah!

I'd seen "rhombus of love" and "love square" before, but AFAIK, "Rhomus of Lust" is mine. And it could still be hot again if Buffy and Spike would each learn how to share, and if Spike could lighten up and relearn how to take a joke. Because everybody's getting mocked in the Hot Rhombus of Lust... And everybody's sharing...

Hmmmm

Quite an interesting read. Some I knew, some I didn't, but all entertaining. And I don't think I'm gonna forget "Rhombus of Love" anytime soon...lol

Oh, you definitely your LJ. You know if you lived closer, my mother would consider you marriage material. Lucky for you, you don't live closer!

Among the deceased, I mourn Kendra the most

Tell me more about Kendra. I thought she was a supremely underused character. To be completely honest, I got the feeling she was written into the show so that the WB execs could say "we have a multiracial cast".

And, I'd love to know what you think about Dru.

I have that "such a nice Jewish boy" appeal. Trust me, I'm quite popular around the clubhouse when I visit my granparents and great aunts down in South Florida.

I don't know the story behind why Kendra was written into the show. I do know that Bianca Lawson was originally cast as Cordelia but had to back out due to a prior contractual committment. So perhaps, Whedon just wanted to find a way to work with her.

To me, Kendra is the biggest casualty of the series because in the end she's just a girl who never really had the chance to have a life, in part because of her culture, and in part because she was the slayer. She's only in three episodes, and given the dramatic impact of Faith it's probably as well, but I do think Buffy's feelings regarding Kendra could have been used to great effect in S7. Particularly considering she was the first case of multiple slayers, and S7 was in large part to be about power, and what it means to be the Slayer.

On the one hand, I'm a bit disappointed that Buffy never used her own pre-slayer experiences or her time with Kendra to relate better with Faith and the potentials. Maybe Buffy (and ME) just forgot the character. On the other, perhaps it's something that still bothers Buffy too much for her to talk about.
