The Best Man

So. Got back from Jesse's wedding up in WashPA. Fallingwater was visited. Much alcohol was drunk. New Timberlands were purchased. Much food was eaten. And bridesmaids were inappropriately propositioned. A good time was had by all.

And my Toast kicked all kinds of ass. For those of you who might be in a wedding party in the not too distant future, I present to you The Best Man's guide to wedding toasts.

Outline:
I. How I know the Groom
---A. Groom Yay!
II. Then I met the bride
---A. Bride Yay!
III. They are a wonderful couple
---A. Cheap laughs at groom's expense
---B. See how wonderful bride is for loving this dope
IV. Wrapping up
---A. I'm so happy for these people I love
---B. Groom+Bride Yay! Best Wishes.

Fill it out, and you have your toast. Keep in mind the following:

1. It is not about you. It's about the love.
2. Tease, but do not actually shame, the groom - give enough details to make people believe you know the people, but not enough to make anyone really uncomfortable.
3. You are standing between the guests and the alcohol/food. Don't make them wait too long.

And then, a good time will be had by all. And you too, will be the best man. The Best.

Sounds like you had a good time. While I've performed wedding ceremonies, you never know with my friends what I'll be called on to do, so I'll have to keep your suggestions in mind.

Fallingwater was how? Please tell. I've never been to one of Those Places. (Not enough money, for the most part.)

Well, as per money, Fallingwater cost $12 so it's not inacessible. (Beyond the fact that it's out in the backwoods of SW PA) It was a cool place to check out, but Frank Lloyd Wright's ideas about living spaces are in severe opposition to mine.

It was cool, but more because I was hanging out with people I like at the time.

My best friend and I went to see Taliesin in WI and it was...over $40 for the house tour and then more money for the garden tour. Needless to say, we went to the House on the Rock and then to one of the caves and only spent about $20 total.

Woo hoo!!!! The bride and groom were toasted. Or is that the bride and groom were toast? Anyway, I was wondering how it went. Sounds like you had a very enjoyable time.

I'm just now getting caught up on LJ so apologies for the late comment!

The bride and groom got toasted. I was toasted. Heh. Was a very good time. And I got to catch up on sleep.

My junior year of college we had a suite, along with another friend Eric. (Now at the MIT Media Lab.) It was a great reunion. I don't see those guys nearly enough.

No worries about the reply. You hadn't been online for a while, which is fine if you're fine. I'm glad you stopped by.
