Drabbles for the Past two Weeks

Last night, I watched the opening show of the most recent primetime run of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire". After a few years, I'm actually finding it interesting again. Which is of the good, seeing as I'm gonna be up in NYC for a taping on Thursday.

edited to add - I can't believe Sammy Sosa threw his back out sneezing. I wonder how that ranks up with the time Lionel Simmons had to go on IR when he sprained his hand playing on a gameboy...

Anyway, I offer up modified versions of the Drabbles I posted for the last two weeks' open_on_sunday challenges - last week's theme was "Punishment" and this week's "hands". Behold:

They cuddle and make love. She relaxes, with her lesser responsibilities, trying to find herself amidst her new/old hometown.

She misses them, but she’s freer than she’s been in as long as she can remember. And maybe she can figure out how to be happy.

Being loved is being owned. And she can’t handle that. Punished, because she loved Angel too much. Because she loved Spike too little. For not loving the choices her friends (or Andrew) wished they could make for her.

Her boyfriend, The Immortal, does not love her. But right now, freedom is worth that particular punishment.

She tells him she loves him, but she knows he cannot possibly understand... His hand reaches, and she almost... sometimes still dreams the “what if” she had taken it.

There is a last moment. The cavern crumbles, the light shines, and he begins to burst in flames… this time, she clasps his hand and tells him she loves him.

With his eyes, with his denial, he tells her that he finally understands the distinction. And as he burns his way to a new destination, she lets him go.

And that night, she does not wonder. Does not dream what if.

Actually - I'm going to be up there as one of the "Three Wise Men" - the lifeline they added for the PrimeTime Super Millionaire game. I think it will run next tuesday, but I'll note when I find out.

And, as far as I know, TK can't actually sing. But, that was what's on in my house. I don't remember him singing on the radio show.

I had to watch WWTBAM last night just so I could see what you were talking about. Maybe they'll put a super-hard Buffy question in the mix just for your expertise. Not that you aren't an expert on other things, I'm sure.

Oh, and the Sammy Sosa thing is funny, but more understandable/less his fault, than the Wade Boggs cowboy boot fiasco. Heh.

Wheee! You go w/your Super Millionaire appearance! Let us know when it airs. We watch it anyway, but we wanna keep special eye out for you so I can say, "Hey, I know that guy that just won a million bucks." ;-)

re: Roman Holiday -- I like the state of mind you've put Buffy in. I think it's a very believable place for her to be at given everything she's been through, and everything she's still going through.

Heh. Well, you can catch the broadcast on Sunday night. Hopefully, I'll get something to work with. I'm bringing a deck of cards just in case we don't get used...

BTW, glad you liked the drabble. Kind of a "what's in her head right new" exercise given that ME hasn't been writing it...
