We learn that:

1. My throwing mechanics are junk. I can launch outfield throws just fine, but can't do soft-tossing. Like, at all. I can only fire.
2. I can go right, and I can go in on fly balls. I can backup and cover the other outfielders.
3. My knees are still improving only slowly. I now have passable, but not good, range.
4. I cannot go back on a flyball without getting myself a high ankle sprain.

Am annoyed. My heel was raw, and wearing the ankle brace was giving me a blister. So I took it off. And promptly found a soft spot in the grass in right field while going back on a ball. Resulting in a misstep and a turned ankle. To top it off, I couldn't plant well on my throw, and thus just missed nailing the runner at the plate by maybe two feet. And then I had to come out. Honestly, I could have still played first base, but they wouldn't let me.

Also, I really need to work on my hitting. I'm staying back late to try to drive the ball opposite field, and yet, I wind up back a little too much, and I come up out of my crouch and beat the ball right into the ground. It's freaking softball, and I used to be good at this.

But at least we won. This was my second week playing, due to the knee problems, and I've since learned that our team was winless up until this week. This may have something to do with not having enough female players in a co-ed league, and thus having an automatic out and empty spot in the field. It also might have something to do with a manger who wants to play everyone evenly, and inexplicably assigns our slowest runner to center field, a guy who can run but not catch to first base, and a left-handed thrower to second base.

I've now decided I really want to see the Bad News Bears remake, even though the original is so Classic that said remake is entirely unnecessary.
