TMI! TMI! TMI!

Buffy had to get to the library. Giles would be there, thinking boring thoughts about tea, and books, and scones. He would get to the bottom of this telepathy thing, and would in no way be thinking about forbidden sex with hunky undead boyfriends.

1. One of my friends was originally from New Dehli, and worked over here on an H1B Visa. His job just got outsourced to India. I feel bad. But I can't stop chuckling at the irony. This really merits a sitcom or a screenplay.

2. Kill Bill is an extroardinary stylish movie. I don't think it's the greatest movie ever, but it was a joy to watch. Now I really want to grow the a Pei Mei beard, even though I would look idiotic.

3. Went by the ASA SeaPower forum on the Hill. Jon Breaux and Commandant Hagee give the good speeches. Susan Collins, not so good, which is too bad because she otherwise seems rather likeable. Out of all of this, I might be getting an article in Undersea Warfare magazine. I don't know that I'm stepping laterally or vertically from the old HazMat stuff I did, but UW is something I can actually tolerate reading, so that's key.

4. Wesley's man-pain does not affect me this time. They've all made the faustian bargain by working at W&H, they've all been playing it through, and I just don't see where he's getting his righteousness from. At this point, I'd still like to know what his motivation ever was for being there, and Fred obsession aside, where his character is at. So yeah, I'm feeling Gunn's reactions quite a bit more right now. Fred is someone in their orbit everyday, and what happened to her was awful. But I suspect this sort of thing has been going on all year - and to me that's a huge issue to be worried about. What happened to Fred, awful as it was, is just the biggest example of the price of being at W&H. She wasn't the only price, and I really want to see Wesley realize that.

5. My nose is getting a bit better. The sinus stuff has largely receded. But the breating isn't quite right, and I think it's really a septum situation. Haven't tried any of the more radical suggestions, but I've got them at hand.

Love the drabble. Yes, someone needs to make that story into a sitcom. My understanding from 4x22 was that Wes accepted the move to W&H because he thought he could help Lilah. Gunn got the whatever promise from the panther. Fred got her big-ass lab and a squee for Holden. Angel got Connor fixed. So far, 2 of 4 were mentioned, and 2 of 4 backfired. (Haven't seen "Origin" yet, but signs show 3 of 4.) But what I got out of "Home" was that Wes was on board not because he wanted access to all the library but because he thought there was more he could do to help Lilah, and she hasn't even been touched yet.

Yes. That "H" will certainly help.

I'd could buy Lilah as motivation, whereas I didn't really buy the "we could do much good" - but they've not elaborated on his motives at all so far. Angel, Lorne, Fred, and Gunn's motives, I can accept as explained even if I wasn't really behind all of those as story choices. Wesley is still a mystery to be examined.

True, but they were given the opportunity to do so and they neglected to. Given S3 Wes (and to some extent S4 Wes), the lack of focus given to Wes this season is distressing. I think the train started going off the rails with "Lineage", which could've tied into any number of things but is pretty much a stand-alone, and with him going insta-headoverheels over Fred then her death, any answer to "Why did Wes join?" became moot.

Which involves tanker-trucks of Suck, when it's normally distributed in pony kegs.

Yeah. It's sort of like this
Q: "What is Wesley's motivation?"
A: "Wes is there because he's part of the team".
Q: "Based on the character, why is he a part of the team?"
A: "Because AD is in the credits."
(Him and Lindsey. Not so much with the spelled out or sensible motivations or behavior.)

I was hoping for a little more than that to help me make sense of the character. It's not like I liked Gunn having most of his character arc in S2-4 occur offscreen, but I at least recognize and can understand what that arc is.

There really aren't many tools for analysis of S5 Wesley, so one has to just go back to the old standbys of prior seasons. Except for the Fred thing, which is actually somewhat consistent even if it's irritating. But for me, it makes him tiresome. And despite his acting abilities, I don't care enough for AD or Wes to spend my time projecting onto him in order to come up with something to recognize.

Heh. Your drabble is fascinating: Buffy's relationship with Angel is just as fringe as all that TMI, but she doesn't like to think of it like that. Or can't allow herself to follow through with the fantasy, considering it's Season 3. You rocked with that.

Responding to your thoughts about Wesley here and in your other post: the point is that Wesley is completely over the deep end. It's not even about Fred any longer, because she's sure not staying dead for the audience. (We are still seeing AA; to yours and Luddite's point, I think Joss would have gotten rid of the actress to completely emphasize the point you think he's making about a price; I think he has other plans. Also, Illyria had some of Fred's memories, and now she just got a truckload more. That tells me Fred's coming back. So, the analyzation of what Joss is trying to tell us with Fred's death is a little premature, IMO, because...not dead.) For Wesley, it's about his pedestal worship of Fred being cut off and in his view, completely perverted by this alien thing. It's a war, but he's seeing himself as the victim, because he can't hide in his fantasy any longer. He was having trouble facing the reality before...now he's feeling completely fucked.

Project my feelings onto Wesley? I know not what you mean...

Thanks. And of course, older men like Angel and Giles don't have icky, immature thoughts that those gross boys do... Nor do proper girls, like Buffy. They're sophisticated.

Well, since Wes didn't remember his betrayal of Angel or Angel's subsequent cutting Wes out of the group, I think a large part of Wes' motivation is (it's all about) Angel. As far as Wes is concerned, Angel is the hero, capital H and can do no wrong. Until Fred gets killed and Wes decides that it is all Angel's fault.
