The NCAA Tournament Pool has reached a Final Four. Depending upon the National Champion, the pool winner will be:
Connecticut - [livejournal.com profile] sistakaren; Duke - durham Entry 1, h. yiu; tung, Georgia Tech - [livejournal.com profile] dlgood; Oklahoma State - [livejournal.com profile] stars91

At this point, based upon talent on the floor, I'd favor Connecticut. Based upon the quality of wins throughout the tournament, I'd say Oklahoma State.

I did vote in the NCAA/Pontiac "All Tournament Team" online, though I have something of a lesser qualification since the first tournament I can remember actually following was 1982, when Patrick Ewing and Michael Jordan were college Freshman. My picks:

C Lew Alcindor, UCLA 1967-1969 (Kareem Abdul Jabbar)
F Christian Laettner, Duke 1989-1992
F Jerry Lucas, Ohio State 1960-1962
G Gail Goodrich, UCLA 1963-1965
G Bobby Hurley, Duke 1990-1993

I was going post deep thoughts on one topic or another, but I'm just gonna veg.

Does anybody want to make me a PFD Panda Icon?

Two Duke players on your all-time team? My mom would love you. I never voted in the poll, but I spent a long time during commercial breaks constructing my team. I too went with Alcindor by acclamation and Laettner by paucity of imagination. I had Jordan and Oscar Robertson as my backcourt. Small forward still troubles me. But since my memory is exactly my stubling block here, Jerry Lucas does seem appropriate.

Good luck with Georgia Tech and your brackets. I'm pretty certain that the winner of UConn-Duke will take it all. Oklahoma State has been impressive, but I'd really, really love to see an all-ACC final. (I hadn't known until I Googled just now that there was an all-Big 10 final in 1976, so I was certain that the Big East and Big Eight were the only conferences ever to compete against themselves in the Championship Game.)

I feel a little off about picking two Duke players, because I hate Duke. And I especially hated Laettner - but based on performance... Excepting Hurley's meltdown against UNLV in the 1990 title game, the two of them were the best tournament players I've ever seen. (Although they kind of fake the list up, by slotting Laettner as a Forward instead of Center.)

Maybe you took David Thompson as Small...

I'd really, really love to see an all-ACC final.

Me too. And I'd like to see Tech win, if nothing else, because seeing Duke lose in the Final Four makes the pain of Maryland's loss to them in the 2001 FF go away a little. Plus, bracket rights...
