Things that have made me cranky in the past 24 Hours:
1. Duke 68, Maryland 60. It's the fifth time I've gotten to go to a Duke-Maryland game, and as exciting as they are - we're 0-5 in those games. Which sucks. (Particularly the epic last-minute collapse of 2001.) The Terps showed a lot of heart, and did a better job with the assists and turnovers, but got thoroughly out-shot and out-rebounded. Still, they played hard and fairly smart, and I'm proud of the game they played.
Also, I got Gary Sheffield's autograph, which was cool.
2. I can't seem to find my copy of The Kalevala. I really wanted to start rereading. Despite the incredibly annoying poetic scheme, it's one of my favorite mythos. I particularly wanted to reread the Kullervo chapters, as he's one of my favorite fictional characters. Part of the reason I liked the Connor arcs so much. I just love sons damned by the sins of the father.
3. Talked to the Kerry folks. They're currently only looking for people who want to work for no pay. Having already worked on a campaign for free for several months, and then not getting a job out of it, I'm not inclined to sign on again. Even though it was extremely exciting. Plus, I don't want to have to relocate or give up my basketball tickets.
But, I am starting to get encouraged. Back in the summer I'd felt fairly ambivalent about the field, but it seems JK has finally gotten his organization in shape. When he's on, I do think he's got the stature and capabilities to pose a real challenge to W. (As some may or may not know, I have a certain minor bias here. I interned for JK back in 1997 - and we pretty much knew he wanted to run back then.) I'm still holding out, but if he shows well over the next month, I might be ready to go in the tank for the guy. Although, I don't think I'm gonna canvas again this year.
