Do you believe in insignificant upsets! Yes!!!

Edited to Add (02/22): So it turns out, not entirely insignificant - the seeding of the medal rounds mean the US must only beat SUI and CZE/FIN to make the Gold Medal game. Canada will now have to beat GER, RUS and SWE/SVK.

I kind of desperately want to be a fly on the wall of every single Canadian business tomorrow. Also, I think the Canucks are going to have to trade Kesler, because there's no way he's going to be allowed back to play in Vancouver again after that last goal.

I don't know. I think having to go to a shootout to beat the Swiss is much worse. All this game did was determine seeding.

And I think Kesler will be okay, because it was such an 'effort' goal. Just about the most impressive empty netter I've seen.

Keep in mind that I live in Washington DC, where people are rooting for Russia because we love Ovechkin so much.

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Yeah. Bummer for your boys. Not exactly how you own the podium.
Monday, February 22nd, 2010 23:35 (UTC)
Yeah, well we know you guys own the podium, but we thought you'd let us pretend or rent it for awhile or something like that.

Interesting how irked everyone out there is at us Ice Holes for coming up with an "own the podium" slogan. I guess it's unnerving - sort of like realizing that hobbits can sometimes fight back.

It's weird. You do realize, of course, that "everyone out there" isn't irked. You're Canada, most of us find your occasional bouts of National fervor kind of adorable...

Colbert joked that
"Own the Podium" seems a little more strident than the previous Canadian slogan: "Pardon, would it trouble you if we won a medal or two? It would? OK. Never mind."

Canada usually does just fine in the Olympics. It's just kind of an unfortunate and easily mocked slogan. And Bobby Clarke aside, people just have a hard time seeing Canadian belligerence in an intimidating light.

Colbert was up here this last week in Vancouver. I think he was absolutely surprised at the enthusiastic reception he got.

Btw, all is forgiven. We just got the gold in ice dance. Nice that the Canadian and US couples as such good friends - and both danced so well.

I believe I am not looking forward to listening to people on the news whine about how this is the greatest of all evils ever to befall Canadian sport. They're not going to shut up about it.

As someone who doesn't care, I am deeply cranky I'm going to be hearing about it as a leading news story. For*ever*.

:(
They should have put Luongo in goal!! I told 'em so!
But Hey, it wasn't the gold medal game..we're not giving it to you guys without a fight!
Now, if Kessler just plays like this when the Canucks start up again, we might forgive him.

Indeed. You're still in it - it just got very hard. I'm really looking forward to the Canada/Russia game.

And it looks like you're getting your wish, re:Roberto Luongo. Brodeur is not the goalie he once was.

I'm pretty sure Pincher Creek's own Darcy Wakaluk never would have let that third goal in...

Exactly! And it's not over yet....
