For folks who are looking for a good cross-reference between Peter Jackson's Movies and the Tolkien's books, I point you to The Encyclopedia of Arda which has just updated by adding a final installment of "Moviegoer's Guide" for RotK.

If you have any questions as to how the books and movies differ, or the specific details or significance of the alterations, it's a good place to start from. And it features convenient citations.

Never did. Am repeatedly told that I'm supposed to. Someday, I just might.

Hee. They're funny and thoughtful. I'd recommend them. But I have met a person or two who hasn't liked them, so liking Discworld isn't necessary in being a funny and thoughtful person.

If you do, I'd recommend the Watch subseries first - Guards! Guards! being the first book in it. That has my favorite characters - Vimes and Vetinari and Carrot (as Pterry has said - they can be considered the extremes of Nice, Right, and Good, while being strong and interesting characters in their own right). Vimes is... cynical and lost and has such a wonderful spirit. He's one of my favorite fictional characters - right up there with Buffy and the Hobbits and such.
