Movie Review: Stuck on You - the best Conjoined Twins Film Ever!

I was working on my Grand Unified Theory, but we'll get to that later.

In the meantime, I caught a sneak preview of the new Farrely Brothers film, "Stuck on You". Generally, I don't like their movies. "Something about Mary" was funny, "Dumb and Dumber" annoyed me, and the less said about the others, the better.

"Stuck on You", however, is excellent. No - really.

Conjoined Twins, Bob and Walt Tanner (Matt Damon and Greg Kinner) have grown up literally joined at the hip. They share a liver. They co-own and manage a Burger joint in Martha's vineyard, and have been perfect teammates all their lives. That bond is tested when Bob accompanies Walt to Hollywood so that he can pursue hid dream to become an actor.

The Siamese Twin issue could very quickly have gone the way of a bad SNL movie. The Farrelly's do a wonderful job of characterizing Bob and Walt, and treating them seriously enough that the premise doesn't get stale, and that it isn't offensive. The humor is lowbrow, but the film laughs at Bob & Walts wacky situations without insulting Bob, Walt, or the audience.

Essentially, it's a study of the familial bond, teamwork and independence. Accompanied by a nice stab at Hollywood, with a nice turn of self-lampooning from Cher. We also get a host of "Hey-it's that Guy" cameos, including Meryl Streep, and a few NFL athletes including Ricky Williams, Tom Brady, and Lawyer Milloy.

So, surprisingly, I really liked this film. Very funny, and kind of poignant as well. Nice story and message, and not preachy.

Also. Congratulations to my baby Terrapin BBallers, who scored an upset road victory over #1 U. Florida in Gainesville tonight. Caught the highlights, as I was at the movies. Apparently, watching my Terps play means having to see Darryl's ugly mug in the stands along with cousin Gary Sheffield. I much preferred Phil Dixon and Steve Blake's travelin' dad.

When you say "The less said about the others, the better", does that mean you saw and didn't like Kingpin? Because I really thought I'd hate it going in and found myself laughing hard when I saw it. Especially the dueling bad hair in the final "fight".

Woops. Wasn't thinking about Kingpin, which was also far funnier than I would have expected.

I was thinking more about "Shallow Hal" and "Me, Myself and Irene".

Watched the last five minutes of regulation, but went to bed before OT started. I heard the outcome on the radio this morning and thought of you! Congrats! That's a big win, especially considering Ted Valentine was one of the refs!!!
