Terps Blackout FSU, 27-24!

All fandom complaints aside, sometimes it's awesome to go to a football game. Last night's victory was intense. Watching the players jumping up and down from excitement during the fourth quarter... everyone rushing the field after FSU's game tying field goal attempt was blocked.... an intense experience

I watched part of the game on TV and wondered about the black unis.

But then I realized: one of the comments on UniWatch a little while ago was about fencing socks, and the Maryland fencing team wears two different striped socks, white/red and black/yellow. The effect is pretty interesting, and the person commenting noted that it's tough to use all four Maryland state colors in a single uniform. All three of these versions do it, though.

And with this very strange ACC season, Maryland actually looks pretty good. Everyone's talking about next week's BC/Wake Forest game, but since Maryland's loss is to Georgia Tech, those last two games suddenly look very important, depending on this weekend's outcome.

They wore the black unis twice last year - for homecoming and for the Thursday night game vs. Virginia Tech. Supposedly, the players loved them and begged for black. Coach Freidgen loves Maryland red. I suppose the question is when they'll break out yellow.

Actually, what I think might work would be yellow pants with the black jersey. I hate our red pants, and Black pants with the black jersey and a white helmet would be criminal...

As to the ACC season... I'm still not sure about Maryland. All 4 conference games were within 4 points - I don't know whether it means they are gritty and can win close, or whether it means they aren't that good and are just skating by. At least - I do think they can get one or two more and make an actual bowl this year.

I don't care how much I may not care about the teams playing, there is something special about watching them run onto the field, even on TV. But if it's my boys, whether I'm watching them on TV or live? There is nothing like that feeling.

You know how I feel about black jerseys, so I'm gonna let it go. Though I understand it more for Maryland more than I do for most teams who do it (NC State for one...).

I'm happy that your boys are doing well. We are SO BAD THIS YEAR. Basketball season cannot start fast enough...

But yeah, I agree. Speaking of which -- we got new basketball jerseys this season, and I'm really not sure how I feel about them. They have this darker blue accent on them. I wish I could find a better picture, but you can see them on my LJ, I guess....

Dook in black is not right. Now if your football team ever broke out an alternate jersey with the secondary dark blue, that might be okay. But your helmets and basketball unis have to be Carolina Blue forever. Y'all have a Carolina Blue... you need to stick with that.

Funny story: I was in the Columbia bookstore a while back, and I was looking for a shirt for my mom. Columbia's colors, as I'm sure you know, are close to Carolina's, but they have more of a powder blue. But the shirt I saw was also blue, and I went to look at the tag to see the price, and you know what the shirt color was? "Carolina blue". I was unreasonably happy about that. Hehe.

So yes, I agree. Carolina blue 4EVA!

I always have to think twice when I see FSU. I always think of Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, NC. My home town and my alma mater
