So - the National Basketball Association is passing a rule about a dress code. When going to or coming from league events, players are required to wear collared shirts, pants, and no headgear or jewelry. (Presumably, and exception would be made if anyone in the league converted to Orthodox Judiasm...)

There are any number of reasons players complain about this - particularly Allen Iverson's complaints. And to some extent, I do sympathize. But I wear a coat and tie to work every day, and it's really not a major imposition. Joking aside, my necktie is not exactly the Yoke of Oppression.

Beyond which - without the stylin' suits, there's not nearly as much reason to watch the NBA Draft Coverage.

-------

And Tonight on ESPN, at 7:30 EST...

Virginia Tech at Maryland

Actually - it's probably not the game of the week - that's Texas Tech vs. Texas. But this is big, at least for us at Maryland. A win here puts us on track for a nice bowl game. And I'll be there.

So, Football Fans - tune in for at least a quarter. Presuming Tech doesn't just blow us right the hell out the building, I think it'll actually be a decent game for awhile. And it might be another showcase for Vernon Davis - possibly the best Tight End in College Football.

Although, I still don't think we'll win. Prediction: Virginia Tech 37, Maryland 23.

ahhh, football.

you know, I didn't even know Virginia beat FSU until a Penn State fan on my flist pointed it out. rather sad.

seriously, though, EVERYTHING is oppression. people are being oppressed left and right; people on LJ are oppressed when people write fanfic they don't like; why shouldn't rich ballplayers get in on the act?

I guess. But, come on. Check out Jalen Rose in this suit.

That is too awesome. Regular folks can't get suits like that, and most of us don't have the guts. Man - we need our rich ballers to step up!

indeed, that is a suit --

however --

a man's got a constitutional right to his bling, beeyatch!

(and now I'm trying to imagine an imposed dresscode for AC)

I suppose. I'm trying to imagine a scenario where I show up at the Pentagon with a pimp suit and twenty pounds of gold chain around my neck... and which does not result in me getting lauged out the building. now I'm trying to imagine an imposed dresscode for AC Oh god. Most of those dudes clearly did not know how to dress, and would have needed a lot of guidance. Heck - many of them didn't even know how to shower.

true, but it's also hard to imagine doing your job in shorts and a tank top.

are you implying there will never be a GQ "men of college bowl" calendar? (or women either, to be fair)

I'm sure we could get a calendar. Out of a 1,000 QBers, I bet there are 12 who know how to wear a suit. Probably not much more than 12, but I think we could find them.

The women, would be harder - because we're talking a really small pool.

Dendy is a Dandy. That has a ring to it.

I wonder if that demographic has changed -- for that matter, i've got no idea whether the circuit is still alive.

Neither do I. I assume it must exist in some form, but I'm pretty much out of things.
Thursday, October 20th, 2005 16:17 (UTC)
Whoa - I just checked the NAQT site, and apparently this year's Championship Tourney is in College Park. Maybe I'll do a five minute drive buy to see if I recognize anyone left...

I'm outraged that NBA players will not be allowed to wear kilts to official League events. They are trampling the Scottish heritage of Dr. James Naismith.
Thursday, October 20th, 2005 16:21 (UTC)
Shaq would be awesome with a kilt and bagpipes. That would be one big ass kilt.
Thursday, October 20th, 2005 17:26 (UTC)

Kilts are expensive. Only someone with Shaq's salary could afford that much wool. At least you save on huge underwear . . .

Suddenly, I wish I wasn't thinking about Shaq's huge underwear. Could we talk about something else? THE WAR! Hurry, hurry and start talking about the war so I can stop thinking about Shaq's enormous underpants.
