Cue yet another post about how, upon starting up playing sports again, I am feeling decrepit and out of shape. This time it was softball...

Pull back. On Tuesday, I took the day off to do everything - bank, haircut, doctor, shopping and returns, installing a ceiling fan, dump run, oil change, picking up the parents at the airport, and housecleaning...

I wasn't suprised to hear the Doctor's advice - I need to exercise more and lose weight. (I stopped working out about a year-and-a-half ago) I'm now up to almost 200, whereas I was closer to 180 up to last year. To be honest, I should get down to playing weight - which for me was 165. But that would require dietary changes I'm not looking to make. So that doesn't seem likely any time soon.

The results though, are pretty obvious. I was never fast, and I'm even slower than before. I don't have much stamina, my back and joints are creakier than they should be, I don't have the jumping ability or athleticism that I used to, etc... Hopefully, by the middle of summer, I'll play my way back into condition. It didn't help that I'd had a tetanus shot Tuesday, and couldn't lift my left arm over my shoulder without pain... And then tweaked my right shoulder by throwing too hard. I really have to sort out my mechanics, because I used to be very good at this.

I really have to find some self-discipline. Does anybody have any extra they can spare?

If you find any, pass some my way, please?

You think you're creaky now? Just wait until you're my age, you whippersnapper you.

I have lost 4 lbs just by making one change. I eat salads for lunch now. I won't give up other foods, and I am too lazy to get off my butt and exercise consistently. I can deal with this one change. Everyone keeps saying it only gets worse as you get older, so this is my strategy. It isn't that I really need to lose weight, it is that I can see the upward slide begin and I want to head it off before it becomes a health issue. Good luck!

Maybe we should start a community for us and our flist: Fitness for Flisters. Part of our mutual flist is already losing weight and I could certainly use the motivation as well.

Not just for mutual flisters, of course; I meant, our flists combined and y'know, whoever.

self discipline? are you sure those words belong together?
