Shallow Praise of Mozilla Firefox

I like Mozilla Firefox - which I downloaded awhile back. It seems to be only marginally annoying, inasmuch as it seems unable to overwrite old bookmarks with new ones, instead leaving duplicates that need to be cleaned up. Otherwise, it seems a vast improvement over IE in terms of speed, pop-up-blocking, pass-word management, and the general coolness of tabbed browsing. And then general absence of crashing and suckitude.

And Yay! Tonight I'll be going to the Maryland-Virginia Tech basketball game with my buddy (and former college roommate) Matt. Which means I'll finally be able to give him the birthday presents for my little godsons Brian and Jack. Like many parents of very young children, Matt and Julie have been ridiculously busy and I never get to see them nearly enough. Or really, even get ahold of them on the phone. So this should be nice.

IE blows big time. I can't even log on here at work without a million popups. Even LJ has popups through IE. I've used and liked Netscape for about ten years. It uses a lot of the Mozilla stuff. Love the tabs.

Have fun at the game! KU plays our instate rival, K-State, tomorrow night. Hopefully the snow will be gone. :P

I used to use Netscape back in the day, but IE passed it (IMHO) several years ago in terms of being easier to code for and use despite the bugs. Firefox, OTOH, kicks both Netscape and IE's butts.

As a side note, Maryland's biggest conference rivalries have been Virginia and (fluctuating based on status as conference powerhouse) UNC, NC State, and Duke.

Virginia Tech is new to the conference, so while they'll be some friendly banter among the various alums in my office, we don't really have a basketball rivalry with them yet. Certainly not like an in-state yearly rivalry such as KU-KState.

It's fun having an instate rival, but I have to say that in both basketball and football our big one is Missouri (which has no instate rival of their own). With K-State it's a friendly thing (especially since they suck at basketball and basketball is definitely king around here) but we just hate Missouri. *g*

I know I don't have much feeling one way or another to the "newer" Big 12 teams from Texas since I didn't grow up with KU playing them very often. With conferences expanding, merging, disappearing, I guess the changes will be something we have to get used to, but it sure is cool to have the oldest continual football game west of the Mississippi (KU-Missouri). *g*

Someone just took out our mailbox here at work.lolol Luckily it was the son of a client and he's off to buy a new one.

I think I'll be heading home a bit early today since it's still coming down and they've done bupkiss to the streets.

I'm hoping to get a new desktop for my 40th birthday in the fall so I'll probably check out Firefox then. I'm babying my current computer and it likes Netscape okay so I'm sticking with that. I finally got everyone to stop using IE at work, at least. I've just never liked it.

It would be nice if browsers would recognize coding the same way. Maybe in a dream world. *sigh*

It clicks, rolls, and even makes jullienne fries. I have no idea how to spell that word, obviously. I just went ahead and did it phonetically.

Actually, come to think of it, I'm a pretty horrid speller.

Even LJ has popups through IE.
If you're getting pop-up ads when visiting LJ, then it's pretty much a definite that your computer has some spyware on it. You should dl Ad-Aware by Lavasoft. It's great at removing spyware.

I think I'd be lost with Firefox. The tabbed browsing is so nice versus using IE and having 5 billion windows open. I have occasional annoyances with Firefox. Sometimes it's security precautions block some sites from working right, even though they aren't malicious. But I can ususually work around it.

~FLST (focus last selected tabe...goes back to the last tab you were on when you close one. I like this one)

Y'know those people who who read books by keeping a finger under the word they're reading? I don't do that, but I highlight words on the screen that I'm reading. That always activates mouse gestures. I hate them.

I would drop IE completely, if not for the Windows Update needing it. The tabbed browsing is WONDERFUL. Plus, I love the themes you can download.

You can change your mouse gestures to be activated by the right click instead of the left -- that's what I do. I could never use them if it was a left-click activation. That would drive me insane.

I work in a Windows shop, and I keep IE around to test pages. For my own browsing, I will never use IE again.

Woohoo!

That was a fun experience. Due to injuries and foul trouble, we got to see the pretty deep end of the bench tonight, and while those dudes didn't really score - they proved to be credible defensive subs.

VaTech had some shooters, but those guys seemed not-too-capable in operating in a half-court set. I don't know the last time I saw so many blocks and turnovers on the interior. If Maryland had been consistent offensively, they'd have won by 30.
