Rather than get into any particular deep discussion, I'm going to whine.

When I was thirteen, my nose was broken in a fistfight. It looked something like a Cheese Doodle, all orange and swollen. It's awful hard to continue fighting after that. In any case, it required reconstructive surgery. And at fifteen, a second surgery, as I had to do some face pulling to get any good breathing in.

So now, in my mid twenties, every spring, I feel like it's broken again. I get these pains, and some major sinus action. Aches in the middle of my face. And I can hardly do anything athletic because my breathing is so poor.

It doesn't look like a particularly messed up nose. But it doesn't seem to be functioning all that well right now. At least I haven't had the crippling sinus infection yet, like I did in the Mays of each of my college graduations. That sucked. I am not happy feeling right now.

Prays for sweet release of superior sinus medication.

I know of something that might help. I've mentioned it to some of my other friends with sinus problems and they've started to swear by it.

Take 2-3 cloves of garlic. Crush them.

Use an eyedropper and take some of the garlic oil.

Sniff 2-3 drops up each nostril.

Be prepared for the abject pain.

From what I hear (I have no sinus problems myself), it feels like the top of your head is being blown off from the inside...but it cures any sinus infection around.

I have pretty bad sinuses too - I have constant, year round, background problems.

The really best cure for them is a fantastic face massage from someone who really knows what they are doing. It really does the biz.

However, I have nothing anywhere near as bad as this, but i know just enough to go "owww"

ouchouchouchouchouch.

Is it possible you might need another surgery?

*ducks blow*

It's actually possible, because the cartilage inside my nose never did quite heal straight. I just hope not, because I've had surgery twice and it was nothing I wish to experience again. But if my breathing is like it has been, I'll have to consider.

Sorry to hear about your nose. I have sinus problems, not anything near yours but enought to make me incredibly sympathetic to your plight.

A few years ago Advil used to have a medicine strictly for sinus problems and it was kickass, but they took it off the market after a brief time. Kidney problems, schmidney problems, nothing they've put out since, (Cold & Sinus) has worked nearly as well. It think someone should invent a little vacuum that could clean out the sinuses with little to no discomfort in 10 minutes flat. You could schedule it with your waxing appointments. Well, not yours, but you know...

You need a steam shower, Dave. During my whirlwind visit to NYC, I got to stay with my birth-Aunt and Uncle in Connecticut. Double income no kids. They have a steam shower. You hang a small basket of eucalyptus beads under the steam tap, set the temp, open it up and close the shower doors till you're ready to get in. I have NEVER felt so good after an airline flight as I did after that steam bath. Cleared my head, my sinuses, my lungs, hell, cleared my damn pores! Loved it. Want one now.

You poor thing.

I actually found acupuncture worked incredibly well with my sinus issues. Provided, of course, you don't mind watching needles being stuck in your face! It is the only thing I've found that actually got rid of that continually blocked sinus/background headache feeling that I had...
