I'm talkative this week. Here's a modified versions of the Drabble I posted for this week's [livejournal.com profile] open_on_sunday challenge - themed around "Patterns" - it's the first I've done in awhile.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Title: The Code
Characters: Willow, Xander, Cordelia
Spoilers: BtVS Season 2 or 3
Disclaimer: Property of Mutant Enemy
Theme: Patterns

The Code )

So yesterday was the first Preseason game, and the Olympics are coming up. And I love basketball. But my favorite sport has almost always been baseball.

I've got pretty ambivalent feelings about MLB, these days. As I've grown up, I've come to identify more and more as being a DC fan, and I can't root for Baltimore's team. But I also know DC will never get a team as long as Angelos owns the Orioles.

But baseball was always less a spectator sport for me than football.

Way back in the dark ages, I used to play a little. Of all the various sports and games I've played, nothing has ever matched the feeling I got from smacking the crap out of a baseball. Athletically, I'm not sure anything takes more skill than hitting a well thrown ball.

That said, I was never particularly good. I still play softball on occaison, which is nice, because I cannot, cannot, cannot hit a varsity quality fastball. Given my lack of footspeed, I generally played at either Third Base or Right Field.

I was blessed with some ability, though. I've always had an exceptionally strong throwing arm. And decent power mechanics - part of the reason I played Right instead of left. I'd really have liked to pitch, since no athlete in Team Sports has more control over a game than a National League pitcher. Unfortunately, while I have a remarkably strong throwing arm (I can still toss over 70 MPH despite not having trained in years) I haven't anything resembling accuracy.

Damn. I really have to get to the batting cages.
