My fic Fatherly Concerns won a few awards:

First, it won the "Seer Award" for best POV Fanfiction in the 5th Round of the Shadows & Dust Awards.

It also won the "Dark & Broody Award" for best Angel(us)-centered fic and the "The Hell Hath No Fury Award" for best villain centered fic in the second round of the Feels Like Heaven, Hurts Like Hell Awards.

The Seer Award The Dark & Broody Award The Hell Hath No Fury Award

This is very exciting.

Initally, I just wanted to showcase Angelus' exquisite cruelty by having him expose some uncomfortable truths - and because I the Angel(us)-Connor scenes had been so great. And I wanted to explore just a bit more into the darkness that was Angelus. In discussing with my co-author, we reframed the scene as a verbal torture session. Angelus using his dark thoughts to drive a further wedge between Angel-Connor, and to inflict more pain on Connor by unearthing the ugliness in Connor's life.

As for characterization, I was really trying to showcase Angelus as a dark reflection of Angel, with that extra demonic twist. Essentially, I'm trying to write it such that everything that runs through Angelus' mind could have plausibly come from the darkest corners of Angel's psyche. Thoughts he would bury, or dismiss, but never admit to. Much like the revelation that Angel used to listen to Frunn having sex. The difference being that Angelus not only explores these thoughts - he expresses them and gets off on the discomfort they cause.

And I stopped there, because I didn't want to write something that might get Jossed. As it turned out, I feel like a conversation of this sort would explain quite a bit on how the Angel/Connor relationship played out later in S4.
