Congratulations for Kim Clijsters, winning the US Open after a two-and-a-half year hiatus from Tennis. Clijsters apparently felt burnt out and wasn't having fun, took the time off, got married, had a baby. I was rooting for Caroline Wozniacki, the runner up (mostly because she's cute) but Clijsters clearly deserved to win.

She's the first mother to win a major since 1980. (Evonne Goolagong, Wimbledon)

I was happy to see Kim Clijsters win. I always liked her game and found her to be a classy athlete. It's good to know that someone can come back from a hiatus like that and still succeed.

I didn't realize that about the mother thing. Was Chris Everett the last one?

I was good up until the having a baby part. The actual having of the baby is not fun. Having said that, I was ecstatic that she won.

Yeah, I'm very happy for her. Class act girl all the way, and it's amazng that she's gotten her game back so quickly.

Of course, now I'm curious about what the crowd reception is going to be like at the women's doubles final post SerenaGate.

See edit above. For Clijsters, it helps that she was still only 26. Most women who've returned to the tour after giving birth were older when they did.

I'm sure the actual having of the baby is not. OTOH, while pregnant she wasn't suffering knee and back injuries on the court or dealing with the Pro Tour stress, so there's that.

Don't know. Serena is usually very popular at majors.
