RIP Sean Taylor

Redskins mourn death of Taylor.

Sean Taylor, Washington Redskins All-Pro Safety died of blood loss after he was shot in the thigh during an invasion of his home in Miami, FL. I don't really have anything to say right now.

It's been a day-and-a-half. We're all stunned.

That's crazy shit, man. Dude was 24. So senseless.

I'm sure a lot of stuff is going to come out in the next couple of days... and the thing of it was that he was kind of an enigma. He never did interviews or shows, so fans never really knew him like they knew the more outgoing and charismatic people.

But he was a force of nature on the field. He was going to be a legend.

Oh, man. I just watched the press conference. I'm so sorry for your team's loss.

Someone posted a link to that hit he made on a punt return (?) at the Pro Bowl last year. I remember watching that hit and thinking he had perfect form and a ton of passion -- and on a special teams play at the Pro Bowl. If ever there was a time to take a play off, that's it, but he didn't.

The famous Pro-Bowl hit came on a fake punt, where he blew up the punter. I also remember him making an utterly incredible crack-back block on a punt return this year that totally laid out a defender and cleared a 30-yard lane.

Taylor was an enigma off the field - he just never let the public in - but on the field, he played tremendously hard. And for a veteran to be on almost all the special teams squads...

Everybody loved the intensity he put forth on the field. The man never took a play off. And he was getting even better.

i was sorry to hear it. We talked about him in class today. I had mentioned in the lectures for tomorrow's test about how dangerous injuries like his could be and how hollywood always made it look like getting shot in the leg is nothing and I'm not sure they believed me until now

Yeah. And it's strange. When they said 'femoral artery' yesterday, I assumed he was a goner. But then, when it had gotten to late at night, and he was still alive, I thought he'd eventually recover because I just assumed these days that you can survive anything if you make it past the first twelve hours or so...

Just goes to show you that nobody's invincible.

you and i made the same assumptions. I'll be interested in seeing what comes of this. (mostly because I'm apparently very morbidly curious)

I still don't even, like, understand, you know? It was so insanely fast, and just bizarre. This really sucks, and there's not much else I can figure out about it at the moment.

Day later. Still sucks. I don't think it's doing me up like Lenny, but still... damn.

Was talking to my sister earlier today, and she just kept talking about how huge he was walking by. (My sister is in the band and saw him out on the field a lot during their practices.) Just an amazing combination of power and grace, and always going full bore on the field. I'm going to talk to her tomorrow and see what she says the team is going to be doing with all this.

The whole thing is so senseless. Plus, if there was a break in just a few days earlier, why wasn't there some type of extra security? I'd think the police would keep an eye on his house because it makes sense that there might be a stalker or someone who might come back.

I'm a bit stunned by his death as well. In my naive little world, I didn't realize that if someone was alive when they reached the hospital that they could still die of blood loss. There's a weirdness about all of this.

Yeah. And top it off... Sean Taylor's father is the Chief of Police of his hometown, which was like 5 miles from where he lived in Miami. If there's any family that should have known better... I'm sure a lot of stuff will come up in the next few weeks, but I almost can't believe they hadn't left Miami.

That is so sad. What a waste.
