So, this was another family/sports weekend:
One thought for each:
- Maryland's excruciating 18-17 loss to Virginia
- Bris for the twin sons of my family friends, Amy & Lou
- The Redskins excruciating 21-19 win over Arizona
- Military/Bhuddist funeral service for another friend of my family
One thought for each:
- Losing to Virginia is like being nibbled to death by ducks.
- Somebody's Cell Phone goes off just as the Mohel is getting down to business = comedy gold.
- If you play not to lose, you quite often will.
- I wish I knew Vietnamese.

At least, y'all were pretty much losing the whole time. Mostly, it was rough to watch my team hang onto a lead all game, but do nothing to expand it, and then give up a 90 yard drive to lose. That's a whole extra level of frustration.

And now seriously, I am sorry for your family friend. Your wish is very sweet.

"Buddhist." "Military."

He was from Vietnam (Buddhist) and served in the Vietnamese Military. So it was a Buddhist funeral, but several men from his unit gave him military/honors tribute. Which as South Vietnam vet, naturally, he wouldn't get from the official Vietnamese.

I think he was probably already in his late 40s when he came to the US, so his accent was really strong. So even though they were very friendly, unless one of their children were around, it was very hard to hold long conversations with him or his wife. Which was sad, because they always seemed like such nice people.
But yeah, what I;ve seen of it made me think it would have been very hard to learn that language.
