within S7 I can see the trend as being from Buffy treating the potentials (the people under the most direct attack from the First) as wards to seeing them as equals
My concern here was that this never extended beyond the in group. What had happened, was that to my mind these potentials had been accepted into the inteligentsia and over time were given more of the privleges of in-group status. I hadn't seen much to indicate this extending beyond the group.
On a metaphorical level, what I looked for was top leadership:group::group:society - and I hadn't seen any indication that in-group democratization was going to lead to any larger impact on how the group interacted with society. I admit I don't expect much from Whedon's comics on this front, as there's not much to indicate it's a concern of his.
