They're oppressed, but they're not supposed to be doing anything about it, other than staying out of the way of our heroes so they can be heroic. (See S7 BtVS) This does not show much faith in humanity. It's a Leninist model.

Who is the we that you’re referring to here?


We, is the society as a whole. Despite claims that the society values multiculturalism, the reality is a situation where the rich opt out and leave the public schools poorer for it. This indicates that society does not actually value public education as much as they say they do.

In my county, the rich opt out at a much lower rate and our schools are much better funded. Which leads to even the weaker/poorer schools in my district to still be pretty good - which, yes, means higher taxes for everybody but also much higher standard of living, better employment, and land values.
