The government closed down yesterday at 1400, and I'd hoped they'd close today. Instead, it opened two hours late -- but I decided to just bail and sleep in instead. 80% of the office was out, so I'm not missing much by skipping.

However, went to clear driveway this morning and my frickkin' shovel broke.

^%$^$&$#^$&$$^^%

Why can't we just get some soft powdery snow? Why's it gotta be the ice? Whyyyyyyy

It's obviously a government conspiracy to increase shovel production.
It's raining here today!

because is just has to be ice. The cat slipped and fell on the porch so I went out and salted for him. Otherwise I'm hiding inside

and hey, happy Valentine's Day

Clearly. I just got back from SAMs - picked up a much hardier shovel and did the drive and walkway.

The neat thing they have now is a big steel ice-breaker... but I passed on that seeing as we usually don't get ice this thick every year. If it happens again, I'll get one...

Happy Valentines day to you too.

Why? You decided to sleep in. To karmically balance the happiness sleeping in gave you, there's ice and a broken shovel. That's the universe's way of telling you that sleeping in is a bad thing.

Sounds like you got a perfect excuse for not going in to work: "My shovel broke!"
